A habit takes about 21 days to establish. And we do hundreds of things habitually every day. Some constructive things include: brushing teeth, sleeping, drinking water and walking. Some destructive forces might include over- eating, habitually running on adrenaline, or even procrastinating in a poor posture in front of the TV. The short-term memory can process seven items (plus or minus two), so here are five factors needed for great health. STRESS: Good health is most often a shedding process. What can you get rid of to improve your health? Picture by Louise Kennerley. About Lisa Shelton Lisa Shelton (Bachelor Applied Science Chiropractic) of Erina Chiropractic Centre (phone 4365 2100) has been practicing chiropractic on the Central Coast for 20 years, and has special interests in pediatrics and family wellness having undertaken study in these areas and clinical epidemiology. She has served as a governor and is currently an associate governor on the board of the Australian Spinal Research Foundation, and on their clinical advisory panel for research grant funding. She is currently studying a diploma in yogic studies. WELLNESS: Chiropractor Lisa Shelton at her Erina rooms. Picture by Aaron Brown. Five keys to health and wellness 1. Exercise: move it or lose it. 2. Nutrition: you are what you eat. 3. Sleep / rest: sleep is when our bodies regenerate and repair. 4. Positive mental attitude: you become / manifest your most dominant thoughts. We all have problems, how we deal with them is what counts. 5. Sound functioning nervous system: this aspect of health is why chiropractors exist, to reduce destructive forces on the nervous system, allowing it to run the body optimally. In the following editions of Coasting we'll examine each of these five factors and suggest some low-stress approaches to achieving them.
