What complicates the journey is the myriad of signposts to health and wellness tips along the way. (It's not rocket science) DEAL WITH IT: A positive mental approach works wonders. Are you confused about how to achieve great health and wellness? You are not alone. Do you feel overwhelmed by the torrent of health-related advertising that you're bombarded with every day for health funds, gyms, new forms of exercise, supplements and diets? I picked up a magazine the other day which informed me that snake venom cream was better than botox! There are some great promises out there. But there's a simple question that you need to ask yourself: is your daily routine delivering great health and wellness, or not? Great health is more often than not a shedding, or ridding process. It's about applying some commonsense or golden rules and sticking to them on an ongoing basis. It doesn't have to be rocket science. Three keys to longevity The three key predictors of health and longevity are: 1. Regular exercise -- it keeps you mobile, and helps body systems to function. 2. Being in a good socio-economic bracket (not on the poverty line) -- so that you can afford health care. 3. Being slightly underweight for your height -- it means reduced stress on your body and its systems. The World Health Organisation defines health as: "Optimal physical, mental, emotional and social wellbeing, not merely the absence of disease or infirmity." The key to understanding real health is in the first four letters of the word health -- that is, heal. Health is determined by the body's ability to regenerate and repair. Your body is constantly doing this in all systems, and creating new cells and tissues under the direction of the nervous system. This is the opposite of degeneration and decay. So how can we best support regeneration and repair, and at the same time reduce the stressors on our bodies that wear it out faster than it was designed to? You must keep it simple.
