Coasting : Issue 14 August 2010
18 central coast • new south wales COASTING CAREER Hundreds of students filed through Central Coast Youth Club, at Niagara Park, for the recent Careers Pathways Expo. Coasting was there to talk to students about the jobs they hoped to get into, their most likely Plan B option and, just for fun, their ultimate dream job. Name: Corbin Bond. Age: 17. School: St Peter's College, Tuggerah. Job plan: I want to get into Newcastle University to study construction management, and at the same time, at TAFE, study construction. I like to see the finished results of a project, and the sense of achievement that brings. After uni I'd like to go to Dubai because there are heaps of building projects happening there. Ultimately, I'd like to come back and start my own business. Plan B: Psychology. I like helping people and giving advice. It's another job that I think would have a good sense of achievement. Dream job: Writing lyrics and maybe even singing back-up for some famous recording artists. Name: Emma Egginton. Age: 17. School: Gosford High School. Job plan: I want to be a vet. I'm hoping to do a Bachelor in Veterinary Science which involves between five and six years of study. It's something that I've been interested in doing since I was little. Plan B: A lesser agricultural degree. Maybe a Bachelor in Veterinary Bio-Science. That's a course that might allow me to transfer into Veterinary Science in the future. Dream job: Still a vet. Name: Kim Ashford. Age: 15. School: Erina High School. Job plan: I want to get into hairdressing. I'm doing a school-based apprenticeship as part of the course. I've always been interested in hairdressing, and I like the idea of helping people to feel good about themselves. Plan B: Photography. I've been talking to my dad about it, and it sounds interesting. I already enjoy taking pictures just for fun. Dream job: An actress in action and romance films. Name: Kurt Burns. Age: 17. School: MacKillop Catholic College, Warnervale. Job plan: I'm hoping to get into early childhood care, or primary school teaching. My mum has been a foster carer for about nine years so I've lived with young kids all my life, and I enjoy helping them. Plan B: Maybe sound production or studio management for bands. I love music. Mydadwasa drummer, all of my family are musos, and I'm a drummer myself. Dream job: Drummer in the world's biggest band.
