Coasting : Issue 12 June 2010
12 central coast • new south wales E COASTING FEATUR FEATUR In the wrong We all have bad days at work. But when your job starts to impact on your physical and emotional health, it's time to face the possibility that you could be in the wrong job. Nikki Szabo of Feeniks -- Career Guidance, Coaching and Training Services, said enjoying your job was vital. "Being in the wrong job can have a huge impact on your life, including your health," Nikki said. "Research has shown that stress, anxiety, lack of motivation, feeling unchallenged or uninspired, and having an increase in sick days, are all accurate indicators that people are not happy at work." So what should you do if you suspect that you are in the wrong job? "Firstly, it's important to talk to your employer about new opportunities for you at your current workplace," Nikki said. "You could also see a career development practitioner for ideas and, in the meantime, start by developing a plan, do your research, job search and explore different options. "The most important thing to remember is that it is always easier to get another job when you are currently working, than when you are not."
