Riding aboard the jet boat Cheeky Bee, with Jet Buzz. Cheeky Bee is 6.5 metres long and seats 13 people. Passengers are taken on a wild ride as pilot Simon Burn launches into wicked combinations of manoeuvres such as slides and high-speed turns, 360-degree spins, power brake stops and fish tails. Rides take about 40 minutes. Where is it? Jet Buzz operates on Lake Macquarie, at Pelican, just off the Pacific Highway near Belmont Golf Club. Scariest bit? It's all about the speed. There's nothing like the roar of the Cheeky Bee's Cummins turbo diesel engine coupled to a Hamilton 292 jet propulsion unit to get your pulse racing. The vessel can reach speeds of 38 knots (70kmh) when it's fully loaded, and that translates into plenty of seaspray and G-forces when the pilot plants the pedal to the metal. Who can do it? Pretty much everyone. Cheeky Bee has taken a boatload of five-year-olds for a spin, and the oldest passenger to date was 88! Even thrillseekers with disabilities, including those in wheelchairs, can ride. Who really should do it? Anyone who has smiled at that car bumper sticker that reads: 'Get in. Sit down. Shut up. Hold on!' Who really shouldn't do it? Backseat drivers. A punter's verdict: "We managed to sit up the front with the driver -- thanks for the tip -- it was the best place to sit. We got drenched instantly. We will definitely do this again!" -- Cristal. How much? Adults ride for $55, children (under 16s) for $35. A family (2 adults and 2 children) can ride for $145. The boat revs up at weekends, and on weekdays during school holidays. Group bookings (of a full boat) can be made for any day of the week at any time of year. There are discounts that apply for group bookings. Go to www.jetbuzz.com.au or phone 4972 1777 for details..
