10 central coast • new south wales COASTING HISTORY moments 1The official opening -- Northern Eagles v Newcastle Knights - February 6, 2000 This was such an amazing night. It was my first experience in the stadium industry after being in the hotel and club industry for over 12 years. None of us really know what to expect, and once the gates opened and the first customers came through it was so exciting to be a part of it. 2Olympic Torch Relay -- August 2000 Wow! To see the stadium transformed was unforgettable. The work that Gosford City Council and the organising committees did co- ordinating all of those kids and extremely large props was outstanding. 3Anthony Mundine v Marc Bargero -- February 2001 I could write a book about this one. It was a night I won't forget. Boxing is such a big event to stage. A lot of work goes into setting up the event in lighting, staging, and on-field seating. This was also a very important event for us because it was the first night that John Singleton came to the stadium. He fell in love with it and, lucky for us all, he realised what an important part of the community the stadium was, and he made a commitment to take it to a new level. 4British Lions v Australia A -- June 2001 Anyone who came to this event or frequented the restaurants and hotels around town afterwards should still be talking about this night. The number of people it brought to the Central Coast was incredible. 5Carols Every year this is a wonderful community event. Sarah and Dwayne (from radio station 2GO) always put on a great show and it is gratifying to see families from all over the Coast coming together. 6Supercross -- 2003 I had never been to a supercross show before. The noise, the crowd... Wow! It was crazy. Watching those guys race, and the freestyle section, in particular, was really something to see. As Central Coast Stadium celebrates its 10th anniversary, stadium manager Monique Marks reflects on 10 stadium moments that she'll never forget. BLOCKBUSTER: Newcastle took on Northern Eagles in a classic NRL clash to officially open Central Coast Stadium in 2000, and the Knights halfback Andrew Johns was one of the stars of the show.
