He put the band together while living with mates in a unit at East Gosford, and Craig McLachlan was their lead guitarist. "We were called The Coasters," he says, laughing. "But I didn't come up with the name!" "The bass player was Mark Beckhouse, a good friend of Craig's who now owns a recording studio in New York, and the drummer was David Williams, another local boy." Morrison had just finished a 12-month stint as an actor on the TV soap Sons and Daughters for Channel Seven which proved to be a handy drawcard for the band. "It was madness, but they were great times," he said. "I was 18 or 19 and living in an apartment with a couple of guys at East Gosford and having a fantastic time." He especially remembers a little green community hall at Erina, with a tiny kitchen off the side. "That's where we rehearsed three nights a week for, like, $7 a night. We'd go and pick up the key from the council," he said. It would be the first of "a bunch" of covers bands that Morrison would front in venues across the Central Coast and Hunter regions. Craig Morrison's musical roots run through his dad Lucky Starr's Jilliby farm, and a bachelors' pad he shared with teenage mates in East Gosford. READY TO RIDE: Craig Morrison Little Cowboys are, from left, Rory McKenzie (drums), Craig Morrison (lead vocals, guitar), Terry Mandryk (lead guitar, vocals) and Greg Peters (bass and vocals).
