The traditional French restaurant, in the heart of Terrigal, attracted plenty of interest when it opened midway through this year. Since then, the word-of-mouth recommendations from diners have seen the restaurant's popularity continue to grow. "Melbourne Cup day was really big," restaurant manager Dominique Papeix said. "We were totally booked out, and it was a hot afternoon, but everyone had a wonderful time." Le Chat Noir is swimming in French French connection draws diners from near and far This is a paid advertisement for Le Chat Noir Restaurant influences which flood the senses. From the ambient music and artworks on the walls to the intoxicating aromas emanating from the kitchen -- everything in the restaurant is so wonderfully French. Owners Michel and Pat Papeix opened the restaurant in June and continue to cook for full houses on Friday and Saturday nights. Michel brings 30 years of cooking experience in France and Australia to the restaurant, and his passion for cuisine is evident in the menu. Entrees start at $16. Among the most popular entrée offerings are Escargot a la Bourguignonne (one dozen snails, served in their shell, with traditional garlic butter), Coquilles St Jacques Gratines (sautéed scallops and mushrooms in fish veloute, with lemon juice and cream, topped with fresh breadcrumbs and gruyere cheese) and one of Michel's specialities, Foir gras There is also a lunch menu. And French music is played live in the restaurant on Wednesday and Friday nights. The restaurant is fully licensed, and BYO for wine only. Le Chat Noir is open for lunch and dinner seven days. It is situated one street back from The Esplanade, in Kurrawyba Avenue, opposite Crowne Plaza, Terrigal. Book on 4385 7077. de Canard (traditional duck foie gras served on a bed of endives tossed in walnut oil dressing with walnuts and served on a bed of napolitana sauce). Main meals start at $29.50 and include a tempting array of steak, chicken and seafood dishes as well as Michel's own Canard a l'Orange (baked half de-boned duck, served with orange zest, Grand Marnier and meat glaze). And what French meal would be complete without an indulgent dessert? These are priced at $13.50 and include Brulee au Chocolat (a rich chocolate and Kahlua baked crème anglais, served with ice-cream and a cat's tongue biscuit) and Crepes au Citron (traditional French crepes, served with lemon sauce and ice-cream). Diners can choose from the a la carte menu, or the fixed price menu, which offers a choice of entrée, main and dessert for just $55, he said.
