"In summer, the high midday sun is shielded from hitting the limestone. But in winter, the lower arc of the sun means that the limestone is heated, which in turn heats the living area." Another feature of the living area is the ceiling fans. These help to circulate any breezes in summer, but they can be activated to spin in the opposite direction in winter to push warm air down. These cool ideas are hot GRAND: The new entry was created in a spot that was previously occupied by the main bedroom, so it was spacious, and makes for an impressive first impression. CONVENIENCE: A powder room was created so that guests staying at the home could have their own bathroom, with a toilet and hand basin. Among the features of the Oak Residence are: • three bedrooms each with ensuites; • separate office or fourth bedroom; • top-end electrical appliances throughout; • limestone feature fireplace; • Clipsal C-Bus automated management system; • triple garage; • powder room; • kitchen with wine bar and walk-in pantry; • Pool and gazebo About the home AMBIENCE: "By raising the roof we were able to create a bulkhead, and the vaulted ceiling helps to create ambience," Debra said. Note how the curve of the kitchen bench matches the curve of the bulkhead. "This creates a defined area within an open space," she said.
