Cooling and Heating c8644784-3Dec A cut ABOVE What does the occupation involve? Washing, cutting and styling hair. Working the till and generally talking to people and making them feel welcome What first attracted you to the job? Interaction with people and being creative. What training/preparation is required? A four-year apprenticeship and a two-year TAFE course which is included in the four-year apprenticeship. Best part of the gig? That would have to be making people feel good about themselves by giving them a good style and look. Also talking to the customers -- they always have a good story to tell. Worst part of the gig? Being on your feet all day. You really need a good pair of shoes. Cutting your fingers all the time when you're learning isn't nice, either! Most interesting day on the job? Working on New Year's Eve for the first time. Everyone was getting a haircut before they went out and they were telling me what they were getting up to. It was such a good vibe and didn't really feel like work. What salary can a new-starter expect in this job? It's not the best wage, but you can expect about $250 a week after tax etc. But stick it out because it does get better. What do you hope to be doing for work in 10 years? My dream would be to have a business just like the one I work at now [T53 Men's Hair, Fountain Plaza, Erina, phone 4365 4554] . A male- orientated salon with a huge TV and FOX Sports running all day! FEEL GOOD: Dale Neal on the job at T53 Men's Hair, at Erina. COASTING CAREER Occupation: Men's hairstylist. Name: Dale Neal. Age: 27. Suburb: Erina.
