Open for lunch on Fridays, and dinner seven nights. Book on 4369 1277. IT'S EASY TO understand why Rajdhani Indian Restaurant, at Kincumber, has maintained pretty much the same menu for 17 years. The menu is extensive and offers diners a wide array of dishes; customers clearly love the dishes on offer; and the industry judges seem rather impressed, too. In fact, Rajdhani's has won the Indian Restaurant category at the Central Coast level of the Restaurant and Catering Awards of Excellence for 15 consecutive years. In that period, Rajdhani's has also won the Indian restaurant sticking to the winning formula This is a paid advertisement for Rajdhani's Indian Restaurant NSW and Australian title three times, and has been a regular winner or finalist at the regional and state level of the awards. "Everyone just loves the menu, so we leave it unchanged and simply add some new blackboard menus from time to time," co-owner Rina Lamba said. "But we do have a large menu with many different dishes." Among the favourite entrée choices is the tandoori lamb cutlets served in a chilli and rum sauce ($14.90). Popular main dishes include the classics, butter chicken ($14.90) and rogan josh featuring special lamb curry with rare herbs served in the provincial style ($14.90). And for those who like it hot, Rajdhani's selection of vindaloo dishes is top class, and features lamb, beef, chicken, fish or prawns cooked in vinegar and hot spices. Rajdhani's offers a choice of seven vegetarian mains, including fresh garden vegetables steamed, prepared with cream, cheese and exotic spices, and home-made cottage cheese or golden fried potatoes cooked with creamed spinach and rare spices (each costs $12.90). Rina said a key to the restaurant's exquisite tastes was its commitment to the cuisine of Northern India, and to home-made sauces which are made from scratch. "And we put so much effort into our service," she said. "We have many loyal regulars who come in and say 'Rina, would you choose for me tonight?' and it's wonderful to have their trust. We love what we do here, and it's very satisfying to look back on our achievements." Rajdhani's is a popular venue with families who often book an early (5.30pm) table. The restaurant offers a children's menu with dishes such as fish and chips ($6.90) and chicken nuggets and chips ($6.90), but Rina said that parents are discovering that the restaurant is a perfect place for introducing children to Indian cuisine. "The kids often find that they love butter chicken and rice, or boneless chicken tikka and chips. And they love discovering what pappadum [Indian wafer or flatbread] and naan [bread] is.'' Rajdhani Indian Restaurant is BYO, and can seat up to 60 people. It is now also taking bookings for its Christmas seafood banquet ($30). Phone 4369 1277.
