22 central coast • new south wales The place to go for a unique handmade garden feature. Fantastic range of water features on display. The best advice on pump and filter options. Bushland Garden & Aquarium Centre 445 The Entrance Road, Erina Heights 4367 7909 where do Stunningflow? water features c8638461-5Nov Water wise Golf courses remain thirsty consumers of water, but Kooindah aims to minimise the use of potable (drinking) water, Mr Huon said. Bore water is used to supplement the irrigation lake for use on the golf course. And stormwater runoff which flows into the wetlands is treated and re-used on the course. Among the other water saving initiatives: Every home has a 5000 litre water tank, and the holiday apartments and resort have an 80,000 litre communal tank for toilet flushing; Bio-swales ensure that runoff from roads and car parks inside Kooindah drains into gardens; Water-sensitive landscaping features native grasses and mulched garden beds; Houses feature AAA-rated showerheads and dual-flush toilets; and Water collected from the golf building is used for cleaning golf equipment such as the golf carts. What the judges said KOOINDAH Waters has transformed a degraded site into a quality lifestyle development that successfully integrates the landscape with contemporary housing, a resort precinct and championship golf course. The entry boulevard provides an open outlook onto the golf course that creates the immediate sense of place with natural wetlands, remnant vegetation and sensitively designed built form. The development sets a high standard for the region. The resort precinct has substantially added to the lifestyle and attractiveness of the development with facilities ranging from indoor and outdoor pools, spas and restaurants. The accommodation, from self- contained studios through to substantial homes overlooking the golf course, provides diversity of housing stock and price points. Investa is commended for its commitment to design excellence, sustainability and maintaining the high standard of development throughout the project. - The Urban Development Institute of Australia (New South Wales). NICE LAWN: Although some residents have homes which overlook the manicured greens and fairways of the golf course, many residents are not golfers. COOL: Residents enjoy outdoor and indoor pools. MASTERPLANNED: A model shows the Kooindah layout. AWARDED: Homes at Kooindah have been commended for their design excellence, and feature a range of environmental features. Pictures by Aaron Brown.
