Cooling and Heating c8638535-5Nov By DAVID STEWART Kooindah Waters: winning transformation Kooindah Waters Residential Golf and Spa Resort at Wyong has transformed a degraded dumping ground into an award-winning design and environmental success story. AUSTRALIAN Open golf champion Craig Parry still shakes his head when he recalls his first couple of visits to the Wyong site that would become Kooindah Waters. "It was basically a dump," Parry said. "There were car bodies and rubbish everywhere, and you had to wear gumboots and drive around the site in a four-wheel drive." Parry assisted golf course designer Ross Watson in plotting the layout of the 18-hole championship golf course. Fast-forward to today, and Parry is chuffed at the transformation that has occurred -- not only on the golf course, but across the entire development, which also encompasses homes, and a four-and-a-half-star resort featuring 84 rooms. ''It's pretty amazing to come from what we started with to what we see here today," Parry said. "I think Kooindah is a fantastic golf course." Masterful planning The Urban Development Institute of Australia (UDIA) is impressed, too, and recently judged Kooindah Waters the winner of the Masterplanned Residential Lifestyle Development category at its NSW Awards. The UDIA also nominated Kooindah in the Environmental Excellence category. The industry recognition was welcomed by the Investa Property Group, the Kooindah project owners. INNOVATION: Investa's Nathan Huon said sustainability was an overriding imperative in the award-winning design of Kooindah Waters. COASTING ENVIRONMENT
