Exercise and sport science lecturer Dr Xanne Janse de Jonge, of the University of Newcastle's Ourimbah Campus, has seen it all before. "There are so many people walking around with 12-month gym contracts who went to the gym for the first month and that's all," she said. But it doesn't have to end in tears, she said. Assuming that you are healthy, and fit to start exercising, you should consider the good doctor's checklist. How to choose a gym Thinking of joining a gym? Don't be seduced by the first piece of shiny metallic equipment you see. Take the tip from an expert and do your homework.
