The town of Wisemans Ferry, on the banks of the beautiful hawkesbury River, is surrounded by picturesque national parks. It is an integral part of the colonial history of Australia and was once an important river port and farming town. Wisemans Ferry has much to offer visitors and is a town rich with was restored using original pieces of sandstone when it fell into disrepair in the 1880s. A relaxing afternoon can be enjoyed in the town’s shopping arcade and the stunning artwork in the Ferry Artists Gallery (4566 4385) or play a round of golf at Wisemans Ferry Golf Club (4566 4422), canoe or waterski on the hawkesbury and Macdonald rivers. Make a day of it and take a 20km Monument to Solomon Wiseman historical landmarks. Wisemans Ferry Inn (phone 4566 4301) is located on Old Northern Road and is the site where convict Solomon Wiseman built a two-storey residence. enjoy a stroll along the Great North Road and check out the carvings made by the convicts who built the road. Devine Hill is the perfect spot for a picnic but don’t forget to stop in and discover the wonders of Hangman Cave. St Mary Magdalene’s Church of England is located on the road leading to Webbs Creek Ferry and drive to beautiful St Albans. It’s well worth the effort. The town shares a similar colonial history to Wisemans Ferry and has a number of beautiful old stone buildings including the Settlers Arms Inn (4568 2111) and The Courthouse (4568 2042).
