16 Coastal Life December-February The Entrance > > > Old favourite has more to offer The Entrance has retained all of the beauty that has made it a favourite holiday destination for families. But have you seen what the ‘new’ town has to offer? Pelican feeding at The Entrance The entrance has been a popular holiday destination for families for generations. The neighbouring suburbs including Blue Bay, Toowoon Bay and North entrance add to the district’s appeal. One of the main attractions at The entrance is the daily pelican feeding from 3.30pm on the lake front near Vera’s Water Playground. An educational commentary is given about the pelicans as they gather to feast on fish pieces thrown to them by attendants who carefully watch to see if any of the big birds are injured. Golfers are well-served by some of Magenta Shores the best courses in Australia in The entrance district with the Tuggerah Lakes Golf Club (phone 4332 1103), Magenta Shores Golf and Country Club (4352 8100) and Kooindah Waters (4351 0700) all within a short drive from the heart of The entrance. Long Jetty Catamaran and Boat Hire (0408 506 661) is one of several boat hire businesses in the district. Take your pick from catamarans, aluminium runabouts, pedal boats, or kayaks (1-, 2-and 3-person) with all safety equipment provided. Just north of The entrance is one of the truly iconic landmarks of the Central Coast, the Norah Head Lighthouse (4343 4444). The lighthouse is now open to the public who are invited to book for a half-hour guided tour of the structure. Climb the 96 steps to the top of the tower and enjoy a 360-degree view that you will never forget. Learn the amazing history of shipwrecks, and marvel at lighthouse keeper tales.
