Coasting : December 15th 2008
central coast tourism St Fiacre Distillery December-February Coastal Life 11 Oz Trikes Norah Head Lighthouse suggests, they make a diverse and exciting range of wines from fruit, flowers and herbs. You’re sure to be tempted to take home a few bottles. But think ahead and also leave some room in the boot for when you visit the nearby St Fiacre Distillery (4365 6155), at Erina, where you’ll also want to take home some of their award-winning Australian native liqueurs. At Warnervale, near Wyong, you’ll more than a dozen locales. Step back in time with a visit to Alison Homestead and Wyong District Museum (4352 1886), or Henry Kendall Cottage and Historical Museum (4325 2270) at West Gosford (see opening hours page 12). And speaking of history, a visit to the 60-year-old Avoca Beach Picture Theatre (4382 1777) is a must. The theatre was voted Best Regional Cinema in NSW for 2008 by the Australian Independent Distributors Association. And one step inside the charming picture palace will reveal why. Not far off the beaten track of Central Coast Highway you’ll find the leafy Matcham-Holgate valleys, home to Firescreek Fruit Wines (phone 4365 0768) where, as the name find the high-tech hydroponic farm of A Dozen Roses (4392 4155). There are guided tours of the impressive rose- growing facility, and the chance to pick up some flowers direct from the grower and at the right price, too. And at Narara, on the first Saturday of the month, it’s all aboard the Central Coast Steam Model Trains (4388 2416).
